This gas pressure spring set makes operating the Bulli at the rear very easy and headache-free, even for tall people.

We have developed a gas pressure spring set with which the tailgate of the VW California T6/T6.1 Beach / Coast and Ocean can be opened significantly higher. We achieve a passage height of approx. 198cm (original approx. 182cm)!

This means significantly more headroom and therefore no more bumping into things when loading or unloading! 🙌

This set is a custom-made product and was designed for VW Buses without a bike rack mounted on the tailgate —we’ve adjusted the load capacity and length accordingly so that, even with the seat pocket full, the headroom is ideal even for tall people. PLEASE NOTE: The photo gallery includes images from a customer showing that, even when used in combination with our gas springs and a rear rack (including a road bike), the tailgate still remains securely in its fully closed position—Note from us: We have never tested this configuration internally and are merely sharing a customer’s photos here (we’re naturally very pleased about this added benefit).

How the gas springs work: After the tailgate is opened, the force of the gas spring causes it to rise to an opening height of approximately 180 cm. Beyond this height, the opening speed is significantly reduced. If you want to quickly reach the new clearance height of approximately 198 cm, you can also manually accelerate the tailgate to its final position. The early reduction in opening speed not only protects the end stops in the gas springs but also offers additional benefits, especially for shorter individuals: at lower ambient temperatures, the tailgate can remain at a lower opening height if desired. By manually adjusting the tailgate, it can be brought to the desired opening height, where it remains in place thanks to the special gas springs. As a result, with our extended gas springs and the early reduction in opening speed, the tailgate is very easy to operate for both shorter and taller people, and the desired clearance height is easily achievable. At warmer ambient temperatures, this advantage for shorter people is reduced.

From our own experience, we can now say that we no longer want to do without this comfort.
